Why employer branding is the recruitment game changer you need.

In our next talent insight series we caught up with lead talent partner, Emma to talk about employer branding and why your company needs it.

In today's competitive talent market, attracting and retaining top performers is more challenging than ever.  Companies are competing for a limited pool of skilled professionals, and the edge often lies in how they're perceived as a workplace. This is where employer branding takes centre stage.

Simply put, employer branding is the image your company projects as a place to work. It encompasses your company culture, work environment, employee value proposition (EVP), and overall reputation. A strong employer brand attracts qualified candidates who are a good fit for your organisation, reduces time-to-hire, and fosters employee loyalty.

The benefits of employer branding are undeniable. Here are some statistics that showcase its power:

  • 84% of job seekers consider a company's reputation as an employer before applying [Source: CareerBuilder]. A positive reputation attracts a wider pool of talent.

  • A strong employer brand can reduce cost-per-hire by 50% [Source: LinkedIn]. By attracting the right candidates, you save time and resources spent on sifting through irrelevant applications.

  • Companies with a strong employer brand can see a 50% increase in qualified applicants [Source: Glassdoor]. Attract the best in the field, not just any applicant.

So, how do you cultivate a powerful employer brand? Here are some key strategies:

  • Define your company culture and values. What makes your company unique? What kind of work environment do you foster? Authentically communicate these aspects to potential hires.

  • Showcase employee stories and testimonials. Let your current employees be your brand ambassadors. Share their positive experiences and career growth opportunities within your company. In my view, authenticity is the foundation of building a strong employer brand. By showcasing real employee experiences and achievements, you gain valuable content that allows you to genuinely share your brand's journey and value.

  • Be active on social media platforms. Use social media to showcase your company culture, employee events, and career opportunities. Engage with potential candidates and build a community.

  • Focus on a positive candidate experience. From the application process to the interview stage, prioritise a smooth and informative experience for candidates. This strengthens your employer brand perception.

  • Demonstrate your commitment to diversity and inclusion. Creating a welcoming environment for all attracts top talent from a wider range of backgrounds.

Building a strong employer brand is an ongoing process. Regularly monitor your online presence, gather employee feedback, and adapt your strategies based on data and insights. Remember, a strong employer brand is a valuable asset that empowers you to attract and retain the talent you need to thrive in the competitive recruitment landscape.
